Singapore entry requirements: documents, visa checks and arrival card
Prepare Singapore entry paperwork before turning a flight booking into a tightly scheduled first day. The useful question is whether your own travel document and recent itinerary meet the current requirements, not whether another traveller was admitted without difficulty. Check the official Immigration & Checkpoints Authority pages, keep the information for your actual journey together, and revisit it before departure. This guide sets out a checking order rather than deciding individual eligibility.

- Suggested time
- Check before booking and again before departure
- Where to stay
- One central hotel with an exact address available for travel paperwork
- Season and timing
- Entry preparation applies in every season; check rules for the actual departure date.
The short answer
Before booking non-refundable experiences, check your passport or travel document, any visa requirement and the official arrival-declaration instructions. Recheck the relevant ICA pages shortly before departure, especially after a change of route. For a first leisure visit, three or four days with one central hotel is a workable editorial plan; keep the arrival day light until clearance and hotel access are complete. Immigration permission and a tourism booking are separate matters.
Check your own document before comparing itineraries
When checked on 3 October 2026, ICA required individually issued travel documents and at least six months of passport validity for travellers other than Singapore passport holders. Inspect your own document and expiry date first. A family booking does not remove the need to check each traveller separately.
Compare the name and document details used in your reservations with the document you will carry. If anything is unclear, use the appropriate official or airline channel before relying on a booking. Keep the question specific: the issuing country, document type and planned journey matter more than a general claim that Singapore is easy to visit.
Keep visa permission and permission to stay distinct
Use ICA’s current visa-requirements page for the issuing country or place of your travel document. When checked on 3 October 2026, ICA made clear that an entry visa does not guarantee admission and that the Visit Pass issued on entry determines the permitted stay. No nationality-based exemption or standard stay length is promised here.
Do not treat a tour confirmation, hotel reservation or completed declaration as a substitute for the required immigration permission. If your plans include another country afterwards, check that destination’s requirements separately. Each part of a regional holiday needs its own document check.

Make time for the local food
What to eat and where to look
Hainanese chicken rice
Chicken, fragrant rice and accompanying condiments form a straightforward main meal.
- Where to look
- Chicken-rice menus at hawker centres or neighbourhood eateries on your chosen route.
- Fit it into your day
- Leave the first meal flexible until you have cleared immigration and reached your hotel.
Ask about stock, sauces and preparation if ingredients matter; appearance alone cannot establish suitability.
Laksa
A rich, spicy noodle soup to consider when choosing a more substantial lunch.
- Where to look
- Laksa menus in local eateries; a Katong-Joo Chiat visit can be planned around a food stop.
- Fit it into your day
- Plan it for a settled day after arrival rather than a meal tied to a border-clearance estimate.
Recipes and toppings vary. Ask directly about seafood, stock and other ingredients.
Kaya toast
A Singapore breakfast choice that can anchor a simple start before sightseeing.
- Where to look
- Kopitiams and breakfast menus near your actual accommodation.
- Fit it into your day
- Use it for the first settled morning, once arrival paperwork and hotel check-in are behind you.
Confirm spread, accompaniments and drink ingredients; a set is not automatically suitable for every diet.
Use the official SG Arrival Card channel
As checked on 3 October 2026, ICA’s arrival instructions required the SG Arrival Card within three days including arrival day, subject to stated exceptions. Official submission is free through ICA’s service or MyICA app. The card is a declaration, not a visa; consult the current page for whether an exception applies to your journey.
Use the final travel details when completing the declaration and keep access to the information you submitted. If your flight, accommodation or arrival arrangements change, return to the official instructions rather than relying on an old screenshot or a third-party sales page. Allow time to resolve an error before heading to the airport.
When checked on 2026-10-03, ICA described the SG Arrival Card as including an electronic health declaration. The stated exceptions were transit without immigration clearance, and Singapore citizens, permanent residents or long-term pass holders entering through the Woodlands or Tuas land checkpoints. The resident exception does not extend to arrival by air or sea; check the current official guidance for your own situation.

Check the route as well as the final destination
ICA’s general-entry page also links health requirements, customs declarations and prohibited or controlled items. Recent travel history can matter, including yellow-fever-related conditions. Read the applicable official detail rather than treating a flight’s departure airport as your complete travel history.
Make a separate list of items needing clarification, such as medicines or goods you intend to carry. Use the authority responsible for that item and your circumstances. This guide does not provide an exhaustive import list, a vaccination decision or a guarantee that a particular item is permitted.

Arrive with a simple first day and review the admitted stay
Keep your hotel name, full address and onward plans accessible. ICA’s general guidance calls for sufficient funds and proof of onward travel from short-term visitors; prepare your own supporting information rather than assuming you will never be asked. After entry, use the official Visit Pass information for your allowed stay.
For the travel plan, choose a meal near the hotel and one optional neighbourhood walk. Book the food tour or larger attraction visit for a settled day. Delays at arrival should not create a competition between luggage, a fixed meeting point and the need to understand your accommodation arrangements.
If you are only connecting through Changi, decide whether you will seek immigration clearance before planning any city excursion. An airside connection and a visit to Singapore are different situations. Consult official transit and airline guidance for the connection you actually hold; do not assume every long layover authorises a city visit.
Practical questions
Is the SG Arrival Card a visa?
No. Check the current ICA visa page separately for your own travel document and circumstances.
Can this guide confirm that I will be admitted?
No. Follow current official requirements and the immigration decision at arrival; reservations do not guarantee entry.
Should I book a tour on arrival day?
Keep it optional unless your own schedule has generous room for clearance, baggage and hotel arrangements. A later settled day is easier to plan.
Where should I verify the allowed length of stay?
Use the Visit Pass information provided after entry and ICA’s official enquiry tools. Do not infer it from visa validity or another visitor’s experience.
