How much does a trip to Japan cost? 2027 budget for 10 days
Ten days in Japan, from Tokyo to a hot-spring night in Hakone, Kyoto's temples, Hiroshima and Miyajima and a last night in Osaka, costs less on the ground than many visitors fear. A gyudon bowl costs JPY 480, a Hiroshima okonomiyaki under JPY 1,000 and the Peace Memorial Museum JPY 200. Rooms in April and the trains are the costs that add up. This guide prices the whole trip at three levels, with every room, meal, train, ticket and SIM included, then adds the flight from Europe.

- Suggested time
- 10 days, 9 nights: 3 in Tokyo, 1 in Hakone, 3 in Kyoto, 1 in Hiroshima, 1 in Osaka.
- Where to stay
- Shinjuku in Tokyo; Gora in Hakone; Shijo-Karasuma in Kyoto; near Hiroshima Station; Namba in Osaka.
- Season and timing
- Priced for 13-22 April 2027, spring and one of the busiest times of the year for hotels; cherry blossom is not guaranteed in mid-April.
The short answer
A 10-day trip to Japan (Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka) in April 2027 costs about JPY 174,000 per person on a budget (about EUR 980), JPY 267,000 mid-range (about EUR 1,510) or JPY 513,000 in comfort (about EUR 2,890), for two people sharing a room, with all meals, rail passes and the shinkansen, luggage forwarding, sights, a SIM, local accommodation taxes and a 10% buffer. A return flight from London adds about GBP 1,500-1,900 per person.
The totals
| Level | Per person, about JPY | For two, about JPY |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | 174,000 (EUR 980) | 348,000 |
| Mid-range | 267,000 (EUR 1,510) | 534,000 |
| Comfort | 513,000 (EUR 2,890) | 1,026,000 |
These totals cover everything on the ground for the whole trip: rooms with local accommodation and bath taxes, three meals and drinks every day, the Hakone pass, the shinkansen from Odawara to Kyoto, the Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass, luggage forwarding twice, city trains and buses, the sights on the route, a data SIM and a 10% buffer for snacks and small surprises. Only the international flight is separate, and it is priced at the end. Euro figures use the European Central Bank rate of 20 October 2026 (EUR 1 = JPY 177.34).

Flights and the total with flights
Japan Airlines flies from London to Tokyo, with April 2027 economy returns from GBP 1,470 on its fare calendar. An open-jaw ticket into Haneda and home from Kansai usually costs a little more, so allow about GBP 1,500-1,900 per person (about JPY 317,000-401,000). From Frankfurt, Japan Airlines shows April returns from EUR 1,374, so allow about EUR 1,450-1,850. Japan's JPY 3,000 departure tax is collected in the ticket.
With the London flight, the whole trip comes to about JPY 491,000-575,000 per person on a budget, JPY 584,000-668,000 mid-range or JPY 830,000-914,000 in comfort. Tipping is not customary in Japan, in restaurants, taxis or hotels, so the buffer only has to cover small extras.
