How much does a trip to Nepal cost? 2027 budget for 7 days

The totals

These totals cover everything on the ground for the whole week: rooms, three meals and drinks every day, the flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara and back, every airport transfer, a car up to Sarangkot, a boat on Phewa Lake, short rides, heritage and museum tickets at the foreign visitor rate, the visa, a local SIM and a 10% buffer for snacks, tips and small surprises. Only the international flight is separate, and it is priced at the end. Rates are Nepal Rastra Bank's buying rates of 20 October 2026: EUR 1 = NPR 169.90, GBP 1 = NPR 202.02 and USD 1 = NPR 151.59.

The model trip

Two adults share one private room for 7 days and 6 nights, from 8 to 14 November 2027, following our Nepal in 7 days itinerary: two nights in Thamel, with Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath and the Garden of Dreams; a flight to Pokhara on day 3 and two nights at Lakeside, with a boat on Phewa Lake, Sarangkot in daylight, the International Mountain Museum, Davi's Fall and Gupteshwar cave; the flight back on day 5 for Boudhanath and Pashupatinath; Patan on day 6; and home from Kathmandu on day 7. Prices were checked on 21 October 2026.

Nepal is not visa-free for Europeans. The 15-day tourist visa costs USD 30, according to the Nepal embassy's fee list, and the totals include it for both travellers. See Nepal entry requirements. Most hotels have not published rates for November 2027, and the domestic airlines do not yet sell those dates, so those figures are estimates marked "about", based on the rates we could see.

Budget: about NPR 173,400 for two

Guesthouse rooms with a private bathroom, Thamel and Lakeside restaurants, the cheapest flight seats, taxis and walking.

• Rooms, about NPR 16,000. A Deluxe Double at Hotel Silver Home in Thamel (it shows 15 a night; about NPR 2,500) and a Standard room at Butterfly Lodge in Pokhara (USD 20 a night; about NPR 3,000).
• Food, about NPR 22,400. About NPR 1,600 a day each: a continental breakfast at Kathmandu Kitchen (NPR 325), vegetable momo at Rosemary Kitchen (NPR 349), a khaja set for dinner (NPR 435), a hot chocolate (NPR 200) and aloo sandeko (NPR 250).
• Getting around, about NPR 94,700. The two flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara with Yeti Airlines or Buddha Air (foreign visitors pay a dollar fare; about NPR 20,000 each way per person), taxis to and from both airports, a car up to Sarangkot and back, and taxis around Kathmandu and Pokhara.
• Sights, about NPR 12,200. Kathmandu Durbar Square (NPR 1,000 each), Swayambhunath (NPR 200), Boudhanath (NPR 400), Pashupatinath (NPR 1,000), Patan Durbar Square with its museum (NPR 1,000), the Garden of Dreams (NPR 400), the International Mountain Museum (NPR 750), and about NPR 1,500 for a boat on Phewa Lake and NPR 1,200 for Sarangkot, Davi's Fall and Gupteshwar cave, which publish no fee online.
• Visa, SIM and extras, about NPR 12,300. The 15-day visa (USD 30 each), an Ncell seven-day tourist plan each (NPR 595), laundry and tips for drivers and boatmen.
• Buffer, about NPR 15,800.

Mid-range: about NPR 254,600 for two

A boutique hotel in Thamel, a lake-view package with breakfast, dinner and a kayak in Pokhara, sit-down meals, and a car for every transfer.

• Rooms, about NPR 62,800. A Deluxe Double at Thamel Boutique Hotel (it shows 55 a night; about NPR 8,500) and the two-night package at Aabas Pokhara (USD 95 a night for two, with buffet breakfast, a set dinner, a drink and snacks on the rooftop and an hour's kayaking on Phewa Lake).
• Food, about NPR 36,200. About NPR 3,000 a day each: an Indian breakfast at Kathmandu Kitchen (NPR 600), momo and a tomato and mozzarella salad at Rosemary Kitchen, a mutton thali for dinner (NPR 849), coffee and dessert. The Aabas breakfasts and dinners are deducted.

Comfort: about NPR 428,400 for two

• Rooms, about NPR 122,000. Aloft Kathmandu Thamel (about NPR 18,000 a night) and Temple Tree Resort & Spa in Pokhara (about NPR 25,000).
• Food, about NPR 112,000. About NPR 8,000 a day each: a hotel breakfast, grilled whole rainbow trout at Rosemary Kitchen for lunch (NPR 1,599), Rosemary's Australian lamb for dinner (NPR 3,499), coffee and a salad.
• Getting around, about NPR 127,000. The same flights, a private car for every transfer and outing, and a car to Sarangkot with time to wait.
• Sights, about NPR 12,200. As above.
• Visa, SIM and extras, about NPR 16,300.
• Buffer, about NPR 38,900.

One day at each level: Sarangkot and the mountain museum

Day 4 in Pokhara goes up to the Sarangkot viewpoint in daylight for the view over Phewa Lake and the Annapurna range, then on to the International Mountain Museum, Davi's Fall and Gupteshwar cave. Costs are per person and include half the room.

• Budget, about NPR 6,000. Half of the Butterfly Lodge room, half of the car to Sarangkot, the viewpoint, museum, falls and cave, short taxi rides, and momo, a khaja set and a hot chocolate.
• Mid-range, about NPR 12,600. Half of the Aabas package with breakfast and dinner, half of the car, the same tickets, lunch and a coffee.
• Comfort, about NPR 25,900. Half of the Temple Tree room, half of a private car with waiting time, the same tickets, and trout and lamb at Rosemary Kitchen.

Flights and the total with flights

Turkish Airlines flies from London and Frankfurt to Kathmandu via Istanbul. Its route pages show economy returns from GBP 1,219 from London and EUR 1,395 from Frankfurt in November 2026; November 2027 fares are not on sale yet, so as an estimate, allow about GBP 1,250-1,600 per person (about NPR 252,500-323,200) from London, or about EUR 1,400-1,800 from Frankfurt.

With the London flight, the whole trip comes to about NPR 339,200-409,900 per person on a budget, NPR 379,800-450,500 mid-range or NPR 466,700-537,400 in comfort. The Nepal Tourism Board says a restaurant tip is unnecessary when a service charge is already added, and that drivers and guides expect a tip; the extras line covers it. Yeti Airlines charges NPR 150 a kilo for extra baggage between Kathmandu and Pokhara, so pack light.
