Southern Islands guide: Lazarus, St John's and a ferry-led day
The Southern Islands offer a different outing from Sentosa: a ferry-led day with fewer reasons to rush between paid attractions. Lazarus, St John's and Kusu belong in the same planning conversation, but a ticket title is not proof that boats run in every direction whenever you want. Choose the island time you value, understand the operator's current route and build the return into the day before looking at beaches or temples.

- Suggested time
- A day including the ferry journey
- Where to stay
- Marina Bay or a central mainland hotel, with a separately planned Marina South Pier journey
- Season and timing
- Keep the outing conditional on weather, marine conditions and current ferry notices. A beach photograph is not a guarantee of swimming conditions.
The short answer
Allow a day including the journey to Marina South Pier, boarding and the return. Choose one main island focus and add another only when the actual ferry sequence supports it. Stay in Marina Bay or a central city area on the mainland. Bring the supplies you need rather than depending on an unverified island restaurant, and confirm current access and return arrangements directly with the ferry operator.
Stay on the mainland and plan the pier journey
Marina Bay can suit the wider city trip, while a central hotel can work just as well when you plan the journey to Marina South Pier. Do not search for a generic island hotel without confirming where it actually is and how you reach it. The ferry departure is a separate destination from a bay-side sightseeing stop.
Read the route before calling it island hopping
The ferry operator's current page should determine your order. When checked on 2026-10-03, Singapore Island Cruise described a Marina South Pier–Lazarus–Kusu–Marina South Pier sequence and explicitly said there was no Kusu-to-St John's/Lazarus service. Do not assume a round-trip ticket permits travel in every direction.
The indexed Viator product names St John's, Kusu and Lazarus, but its general description is not a replacement for the operator's current sailing instructions. Check ticket redemption, actual landing points, the sequence and your return before purchase. This guide does not reproduce a fixed departure timetable or fare.

Choose the island time you want
A Lazarus beach-led visit, time around St John's and a Kusu visit are different priorities. Pick one first and allow the ferry arrangement to shape the rest. Follow current land and marine notices rather than treating an open landscape as unrestricted access.
NParks describes the marine-park setting around these southern waters and gives current visitor information for its managed areas. That does not mean every island, shore or marine activity has the same rules. Check the responsible operator or authority for the part you intend to visit.

Supplies and a mainland meal keep the day simple
Take the water, food and weather protection appropriate to your chosen visit. Do not rely on an old restaurant listing to supply the whole day. Arrange a proper mainland meal before departure or after returning.
Follow current beach notices if entering the water and keep your return boarding point clear. If weather or a delay reduces the visit, spend less time on the island rather than losing the return arrangement.

Practical questions
Does island hopping mean boats run in every direction?
No. The operator page checked on 2026-10-03 stated a specific route and no Kusu-to-St John's/Lazarus service. Confirm the current sequence.
Where is the departure point?
Plan the actual journey to Marina South Pier and the chosen operator's ticket counter; do not substitute a generic Marina Bay pin.
Should I rely on island restaurants?
This guide does not confirm a particular island restaurant. Bring the supplies appropriate to your visit and plan a mainland meal.
Can I add Sentosa to the same day?
Treat Sentosa as a separate outing unless your actual booked product explicitly combines them; the ferry day already needs time for boarding and return.
