Malaysia entry planning: visa checks and the official arrival card

Use Malaysian Immigration’s country-specific visa information and your passport details. A leisure plan, working visit and a different travel document can involve different checks; no universal visa-free stay is promised here. The official MDAC portal provides registration and eligibility information. An arrival-card submission is not a substitute for any visa or permission required for your own visit.

The short answer

Use Malaysian Immigration’s country-specific visa information and your passport details. A leisure plan, working visit and a different travel document can involve different checks; no universal visa-free stay is promised here.

Start with your own passport and purpose

Read Malaysian Immigration’s country-specific visa information for your nationality and travel document. The page also distinguishes visit purposes; a tourist itinerary does not settle permission for work or study.

Check this before a non-refundable booking. This guide gives no universal visa-free stay, passport rule for all travellers or guarantee of admission.

Use the official arrival-card portal

The Malaysian Immigration MDAC portal links its registration and eligibility infographics. On 3 October 2026, the registration image instructed visitors covered by the requirement to submit within three days before arrival.

Read the current instruction again near departure. An arrival card and a visa are separate checks; completing the card does not replace any permission needed for your visit.

Read the exception that applies to your actual status

The official eligibility image lists specific exceptions, including Singapore citizens, diplomatic/official passport holders and Malaysian permanent residents or long-term pass holders. Check the full current list for your document rather than relying on an informal summary.

Singapore permanent residence alone is not the Singapore-citizenship exception. If your status is unclear, resolve it through Immigration or the appropriate consular channel before relying on an exemption.

Keep arrival arrangements distinct from entry permission

Record the arrival airport and terminal from the booking and retain the information you submitted. For a Kuala Lumpur-led visit, KUL is the gateway used in the lodging and transfer example below.

Airport rail connects with KL Sentral and city transport; check the current operator notice. Neither a hotel reservation nor the linked transfer collection establishes your right to enter Malaysia.

Book the onward journey for the actual destination

The linked Kuala Lumpur transfer collection is an arrival-planning option after your entry checks. Select the correct airport, terminal, direction and hotel coverage; the collection also contains services that may not fit your booking.

The hotel areas below apply only to a Kuala Lumpur stay. Confirm the chosen property’s payment, cancellation and arrival arrangements directly.

Practical questions

Does MDAC replace a Malaysian visa?

No. Check any visa or permission required for your nationality, document and visit purpose separately from arrival-card registration.

When should I submit the arrival card?

The official registration infographic inspected on 3 October 2026 says within three days before arrival. Read the current portal instruction again before travel; this guide does not redefine it as a rolling 72-hour rule.

Are Singapore permanent residents automatically exempt?

The eligibility image specifies Singapore citizenship as an exception. Permanent residence in Singapore alone does not establish that exception; check any other category against your actual status.

Does booking an airport transfer complete the entry checks?

No. A transfer provides an onward travel option. Immigration requirements and admission are separate.

Does this experience fit your route?

After checking entry requirements, compare the Kuala Lumpur transfer collection for your actual terminal and hotel. It is a collection of options, not an entry service.
